Invitation Psalm 145:13

"Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does."

Bible Song Psalm 27:1-5

The Lord is my light and my salvation —
whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life —
of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked advance against me
to devour me,

it is my enemies and my foes
who will stumble and fall.

Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear;

though war break out against me,
even then I will be confident.

One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,

to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple.

For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;

he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
and set me high upon a rock.

Bible Reading Romans 4:13-17

It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith. For if those who depend on the law are heirs, faith means nothing and the promise is worthless, because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.

Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring — not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed — the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.

Prayer HC 19

Father, I praise you for the story of salvation you reveal in the Bible. Good news spills out on every page — in the created goodness of Eden, through your promises to Abraham and the pointed proclamations of the prophets, even in the strange sacrifices and ceremonies of the law. And of course, I hear the gospel most clearly in your dear Son, Jesus. In his name I pray, amen.

Blessing Psalm 130:5

"I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope."
