Invitation Psalm 148:13

"Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens."

Bible Song Psalm 76:1-3, 8-12

God is renowned in Judah;
in Israel his name is great.

His tent is in Salem,
his dwelling place in Zion.

There he broke the flashing arrows,
the shields and the swords, the weapons of war...

From heaven you pronounced judgment,
and the land feared and was quiet —

when you, God, rose up to judge,
to save all the afflicted of the land.

Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise,
and the survivors of your wrath are restrained.

Make vows to the Lord your God and fulfill them;
let all the neighboring lands
bring gifts to the One to be feared.

He breaks the spirit of rulers;
he is feared by the kings of the earth.

Bible Reading Judges 2:6-8, 10-11, 14

After Joshua had dismissed the Israelites, they went to take possession of the land, each to their own inheritance. The people served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him and who had seen all the great things the Lord had done for Israel.

Joshua son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died at the age of a hundred and ten...

After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel. Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals... In his anger against Israel the Lord gave them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, whom they were no longer able to resist.

Prayer HC 94

Gracious God, the moment I give my heart to someone or something apart from you, I'm breaking the first command, and all the others soon topple too. Keep me looking to you alone, loving, fearing, and honoring you with all my heart. Amen.

Blessing Matthew 5:3

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
