Invitation Nahum 1:7

"The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him."

Quiet

Bible Song Psalm 68:1-6

May God arise, may his enemies be scattered;
may his foes flee before him.

May you blow them away like smoke —
as wax melts before the fire,
may the wicked perish before God.

But may the righteous be glad
and rejoice before God;
may they be happy and joyful.

Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,
extol him who rides on the clouds;
rejoice before him — his name is the Lord.

A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
is God in his holy dwelling.

God sets the lonely in families,
he leads out the prisoners with singing;
but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

Bible Reading Deuteronomy 6:3-8

Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you.

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.

Quiet

Dwelling

Leisurely read again ... is there a word or idea that stirred within you? Linger over it and give it your attention ... is there something about the reading you'd like to ask God about? Pray your life to God ... take a moment to rest in God's presence.

Free Prayer

  • for a love of and commitment to the communities in which God placed us
  • for God to equip us to serve in uniquely Christian ways in the public arena
  • for those who work in government and law

Prayer BC 8

Triune God, you are a community of three united in selfless love, each person utterly and completely for the other. Remind me again that this is the grain of the universe, that unless I live in love, for you and for others, I'm not living in the flow of your one love, or for that matter, really living at all. Amen.

Blessing Matthew 11:29-30

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
